Introducing Michael A. Moroni - the New Chair of The Missouri Bar Workers' Compensation Committee for 2006-2007

Michael Moroni's name may be familiar to you if you have been involved with workers' compensation in Missouri for the past six years. You may have appeared before him on a Cape Girardeau docket when he was an Associate Administrative Law Judge. Perhaps you met with him to plan CLEs when he served as Vice-Chair for the The Missouri Bar Workers' Compensation Institute. You may have read his article in “The WC” Newsletter or saw him moderate the Columbia CLE Institute earlier this year.

Wherever your paths may cross, you will find Michael to be knowledgeable and friendly. He has been a committed supporter of the Workers' Compensation Committee for years. This article is designed to introduce you to your new chair.

Michael Anthony Moroni is the youngest of five children, having three older brothers and one sister. He claims no nickname, although he answers to Mike. Michael was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to parents who were hard working farmers. His mother was very active in the Advance community. He married Sharon Ann in December 1980. They have two children, Joseph, age 20, a junior at Northwestern University and Gina, age 17, a senior at Advance High School.

Michael's hobbies are gardening and reading. He serves as president of the St Joseph's Catholic Church parish council in Advance, Missouri. He is a founding member of the Advance Public School Foundation. Currently, Mike is running unopposed as the committeeman for the Stoddard County Democratic Central Committee, effective August 2006.

Michael attended Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale where he graduated magna cum laude and served as the managing editor of the Southern Illinois University Law Journal.

Michael served as an associate administrative law judge until December 31, 2005. He enjoyed helping people in that capacity. He manages the satellite office of Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer, and Green, LLC law firm in Cape Girardeau. He maintains a general law practice with an emphasis in workers' compensation. He represents employees and some uninsured employers. Michael believes his judicial experience has enabled him to meet many attorneys while developing a working knowledge of the workers' compensation process. He has also met many attorneys through his work with The Missouri Bar Workers' Compensation Committee. These relationships have assisted him in his law practice at Burns and Taylor.

Michael hopes the committee will continue to develop collegiality among members of the bar during the coming bar year. He believes this is important. It is his goal that the committee will find ways to ease attorney workloads and provide fun ways to foster collegiality. He would like to continue executive committee meetings by telephone in order to plan meaningful events and CLEs. His message to the bar is simple:

You only get as much out of the Workers' Compensation Committee as you put into it. The more you put into it the better the committee will be and the more you will get out of it. The best thing about the committee is that it allows you to meet other attorneys that you would not normally have a chance to meet.
As the out-going committee chair, I appreciate Michael's support and I encourage everyone to continue to work with him to improve the quality of workers' compensation services in the State of Missouri for all citizens. We are fortunate to have him serve as our committee chair. The 2006-07 bar year will hold many opportunities. As a committee, we will continue to advance under Michael Moroni's leadership.
