Issue: Judicial Salaries

Salaries for judges are determined by the Missouri Citizens Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials. Last year, the Commission recommended that the salaries of state judges should be set as a percentage of the salaries of federal judges. Depending on their level, Missouri judges will receive about 72% of the salary of federal judges, starting in 2013. This increase will move the average salary of Missouri judges closer to the median income of judges in other states. Previously, Missouri judges' salaries were ranked 38th in the nation, according to the Judicial Salary Survey of the National Centers for State Courts.
