Missouri Bar -- Legislation

Through its legislative activities, The Missouri Bar has a significant impact on the laws affecting people throughout Missouri.

The Bar works to improve Missouri's laws in several ways:

Missouri Bar committees regularly propose legislation designed to improve the law. Recent successful efforts have included a comprehensive revision of the state’s trust code and an update of the Missouri bankruptcy laws.
The Bar advocates for or against proposed legislation that affects the administration of justice, the integrity of the judiciary, or the dignity of the profession of law. The Bar supports adequate funding for the state’s judiciary and defends the state’s non-partisan judicial selection plan.
The Bar reviews legislation and often provides comments and drafting suggestions in an effort to help keep lawmakers informed about the impact of proposed legislation.
