ESQ CalendarCommission Seeks Applicants for Western District Appellate Vacancy
The Appellate Judicial Commission is accepting applications for judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District to fill the impending vacancy that will be created when Judge James M. Smart Jr. retires on February 15. February 15 is also the deadline for applications. (More)

Demographics Released, Interviews Set for 22nd Circuit Vacancy
All 33 applicants will be interviewed for the current associate circuit judge vacancy in the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court. Interviews will begin on January 29 and the judicial commission will select a panel of three nominees to recommend to the governor on January 30. Interviews are open to the public. (More)

Judge CovingtonFormer Supreme Court Judge Ann Covington Named to University of Missouri Board of Curators
Gov. Jay Nixon has named former Missouri Supreme Court Judge Ann Covington to the University of Missouri Board of Curators. Judge Covington’s appointment, which is subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate, is for a term ending January 2019. (More)

Judge AselJudge Asel Elected 13th Circuit Presiding Judge
The 13th Judicial Circuit Court earlier this week elected Judge Jodie Capshaw Asel as presiding judge effective at the end of January. Judge Asel succeeds Judge Gary Oxenhandler, who served as presiding judge since March 2010. (More)

Jackson County Circuit Court Gets Green Light to Go Green with Efiling
Starts in KC March 25, Civil and Domestic Cases in Independence March 4
Starting in March, Jackson County will become the largest circuit to date to begin utilizing paperless electronic filing. Computer filings will be mandatory for attorneys in civil and domestic cases. Paper filings will continue to be used in criminal, probate, and juvenile matters, as well as in pro se filings. (More)

Pat StarkePat Starke Discusses A-Lex – Soon to be Launched Initiative to Connect Lawyers and the Legislators and Make a Difference
Missouri Bar President Pat Starke spoke about his plans to increase and organize the connectivity between The Missouri Bar and the Legislature during a presentation earlier this week at the Springfield Metropolitan Bar luncheon. Called Amicus Lex or A-Lex for short, the initiative is a way for lawyers to reach out to individual legislators in an organized fashion, and when appropriate, offer insights on matters that lawyers collectively agree upon. Watch for the President’s Page in the next Journal for details.

Supreme Court of Missouri Chief Justice Richard B. Teitelman will deliver his 2013 State of the Judiciary address to a joint session of the Missouri General Assembly on Wednesday, January 23.

The Missouri Bar Foundation is seeking nominations for the 2012 Lon O. State Auditor Releases Report: Second Injury Fund Broke, No Way to Pay Benefits
Tom Schweich Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich earlier this week released a report on Missouri's Second Injury Fund, recommending that lawmakers and the governor decide if the fund’s statutory purpose is still public policy and take appropriate actions to reduce, eliminate or re-capitalize the fund.
