Judge Asel Elected to be 13th Circuit Presiding Judge (Columbia - January 16, 2013) -- The 13th Judicial Circuit Court en Banc met yesterday, January 15, 2013, and elected Judge Jodie Capshaw Asel, Circuit Judge, Division IV, to serve as Presiding Judge effective Thursday, January 31, 2013. Judge Asel will succeed Judge Gary Oxenhandler, who served as Presiding Judge from March 2010 until present. Judge Asel, was first appointed to the court in 1991, and has been elected since 1992. She was elected Circuit Judge of Division IV in 2006. Division IV handles general civil and criminal dockets. Judge Asel is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia, School of Law, with an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Prior to appointment to the court, she was an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Boone County; Assistant Public Defender; and in private practice. Judge Asel has served on the Missouri Supreme Court Judicial Education Committee since 1993, and has been Vice Chair since July 2009. She has been a member of the Coordinating Commission for Judicial Education since 2008. Judge Asel was previously a member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges for five years, serving as its Vice President and President. She served as President of the Boone County Bar Association from 2004 - 2005. She has served as an officer of the Missouri Circuit Judges’ Association for the past three years and is currently serving as President. Judge Asel resides in Columbia with her husband Don Asel.
