Recognizing Outstanding Leadership and Dedication to MoBarCLE

Through his numerous presentations at MoBarCLE seminars, Steve Scott has made a significant contribution to the continuing legal education of Missouri attorneys. Mr. Scott speaks annually at the Solo & Small Firm Conference, having served on the faculty and planning committee for more than a decade. He has also been a regular presenter at MoBar CLEs on ethics, landlord-tenant law, practice management, and setting up a home-office. In addition to speaking at programs, he serves on a number of Missouri Bar committees, and from 2009 to the present has chaired the Online Legal Research Committee.  Mr. Scott has served in a number of officer positions with the Boone County Bar Association, and is currently the President of that organization.

Mr. Scott holds three degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia: a Bachelor of Journalism; a Master of Arts, Political Science; and a Juris Doctor (cum laude). Before and while attending law school, he worked as a reporter and editor. In law school he was a member of the Board of Editors of the Missouri Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. Mr. Scott has practiced law in Columbia since 1978, and in recent years focused his practice on landlord services. Prior to starting his solo firm in 1997, he was the managing shareholder of a six-lawyer firm.  In addition to his service to the legal profession, Mr. Scott was a member of the Columbia Board of Education from 1985 to 1994, serving as its President from 1990-92. He has been active in several other community organizations, including church governing bodies and serving as president of the Rotary Club of Columbia.
