Judicial Commission Seeks Applications for Circuit Judge Vacancy in St. Louis County
CalendarThe 21st Circuit Judicial Commission (St. Louis County) is accepting applications for a circuit judge vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Mark Seigel. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on August 29.

Public Alert: New Juror Scam Seeks Personal Data, Threatens Fines, Possible Jail Time

A new juror scam email has been reported in at least 14 federal court districts. Citizens received fraudulent emails claiming they had been selected for jury service and demanding that they return a form with such information as Social Security and driver’s license numbers, date of birth, mother’s maiden name. ABA Report on Missouri Public Defender Caseloads Provides Blueprint for National Reform
The ABA announced yesterday the release of a report that provides a new empirical method for public defender systems to document how excessive caseloads deny indigent criminal defendants the constitutional right to effective counsel. (More) (Report)

Eastern District of Missouri Accepting Applications for Federal Magistrate Judge
The U.S. District Court seeks applications for an eight-year appointment as U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri. The position is headquartered in St. Louis. Applications are due by August 28. (More)

Survey Finds Infrequent Social Media Use in Courtroom
Social media use by jurors, and the problems resulting from it, remains a relatively infrequent occurrence, according to a survey of U.S. district judges. Nearly 500 judges in all 94 districts responded to a Federal Judicial Center survey assessing jurors’ use of social media. (More)

Lawyers Provide Legal Advice for Veterans at Clinic Underway Today in Columbia
Veterans ClinicAttorneys were on hand to help veterans with family law, non-felony criminal and collections/bankruptcy matters at a Missouri Bar Veterans Clinic being piloted today at the Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia.
