6th Circuit Judicial Commission Seeks Applicants for Vacancies in Platte County
The Sixth Circuit Judicial Commission is accepting applications for two associate circuit judge positions of the Sixth Judicial Circuit (Platte County), to fill the vacancies created by the impending retirement of the Honorable Daniel M. Czamanske; and the appointment of the Honorable Gary D. Witt to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District. (More)
ABA Amicus Brief Supports Supreme Court Guidance on Work-Product Doctrine
The ABA is urging the Supreme Court to grant cert for Textron v. U.S. and provide guidance on the scope of the work product doctrine protecting confidentiality of materials lawyers prepare in anticipation of client litigation. Report Finds Women Unequally Represented in Federal and State Judgeships
Missouri Tied for 24th in Female Federal Judgeships, 40th in State Judgeships
The unequal representation of women on the bench still persists, according to a report released last week by the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society. The report noted that although women are entering the legal profession in almost the same numbers as men, a gender gap persists. (More)
Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, to Sit at Truman State
On Wednesday, February 17, Chief Judge Thomas H. Newton and Judges Joseph M. Elllis and Cynthia L. Martin will hear oral arguments at Truman State. Judge Newton explains that hearing arguments outside of Kansas City helps the public better understand how the court functions. (More)
