The Missouri Bar Immigration Law Committee has been involved in our members' effort to help victims of labor trafficking in a high-profile Kansas City federal case (http://www.ice.gov/pi/nr/0905/090527kansascity.htm). Volunteer lawyers in Kansas City have been assisting victims with T (victims of trafficking) and U (victims of crimes) visa applications that would allow them to stay in the U.S.
As more victims are identified, there is a need for additional volunteer lawyers to represent individual trafficking victims in their U and T visa applications before USCIS, ICE, and possibly immigration court. There is also need for experienced immigration practitioners who can help train volunteer lawyers and and help with their cases. To volunteer, please contact Mira Mdivani, Chair of the Missouri Immigration Law Committee at mmdivani@uslegalimmigration.com.
Dear Missouri Bar Members:
I am looking for volunteers for the Missouri Bar Immigration Law Committee Pro Bono Trafficking Victims Effort.
The trafficking victims needing representation are connected to the Kansas City labor trafficking indictment. Click here for indictment information.
Two kinds of volunteers are needed:
1. Lawyers who are interested in representing individual trafficking victims in their U and T visa applications before USCIS, ICE, and possibly immigration court.
2. Experienced immigration practitioners with T and U experience to train volunteer lawyers and to be available to actively assist volunteer attorneys with visa applications (review documents, clarify law, provide guidance, promptly return phone calls and e-mail).
A TRAINING PROGRAM WILL BE DEVELOPED.
How to volunteer:
Please contact Mira Mdivani by e-mail at mmdivani@uslegalimmigration.com.
Kind regards,
Mira Mdivani
