Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith will deliver the annual State of the Judiciary address at a joint session of Missouri’s General Assembly at 10:30 a.m. on February 5 in the House Chamber. (More)

Gov. Blunt Outlines Principles to Improve Local Property Tax Laws
Gov. Matt Blunt is calling on the Missouri Legislature to make changes to the local property tax system. The proposed changes include:
- Ensuring taxpayers have information about the source of local property tax increases,
either property assessments or levies
- Requiring taxpayers be notified of their estimated taxes earlier in the year
- Ending back-door tax increases by closing loopholes in current local property tax law to introduce mandatory rollbacks and require levy increases to be applied to the most recent assessment instead of a new assessment (More)

Deadline Approaches for New Board Seats, Nominations Due by January 10
Nominating petitions for three newly created seats on the Board of Governors are due by January 10. The three district wide seats are for lawyers with unique knowledge or who represent diverse elements of the bar that include but are not limited to age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, geography and areas and types of practice. 2007 Year-End Report on the Federal Judiciary
Chief Justice John Roberts emphasized the need to raise the pay of federal judges in his third state of the judiciary message, continuing a theme that has appeared in his previous reports and those of his predecessor, the late William Rehnquist.
