Ken Vuylsteke

Mr. Ken Vuylsteke is a trial attorney who limits his practice to personal injury cases. He currently serves on the Executive Board of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and chairs the HMO/Health Law committee. He frequently testifies before the Missouri legislature on issues pertaining to patient safety, physicians’ rights and general consumer issues. Since 1998, he has chaired the Medical-Legal committee for the Bar Association of Metro St. Louis whose mission is to foster better relationships between the two learned professions. 

Mr. Vuylsteke was the recipient of the Lon O. Hocker Outstanding Young Trial Lawyer Award from the Missouri Bar Foundation in 1986, received the President’s Award from MATA in 2003 and was named Defender of Patient Safety by Missouri Watch in 2005.

In 2003-2004, he was appointed by Governor Bob Holden to the Missouri Commission on Patient Safety and has been an Instructor in the Department of Humanities at Washington University School of Medicine. His publications on ethics and bioethics have appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Missouri Medicine and St. Louis Metropolitan Medicine. 

A past adjunct professor of Trial Practice at St. Louis University School of Law, Mr. Vuylsteke is currently an adjunct professor at the Washington University Law School, teaching an upper level course “Protecting Patients: Physicians and Attorneys as Advocates.”
