Judge Ohmer was admitted to practice in Missouri in 1979; U.S. District Court of Eastern Missouri in 1979; Illinois in 1980 and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1988.

He began his career as an Assistant Circuit Attorney (1979 -'83.) In 1983 he joined the family firm of Ohmer & Ohmer (1983 -'87) and returned to the Circuit Attorney's Office (1987 -'94) where he was the Chief Warrant Officer (1992 -'94.) He has authored Casenote- Bankruptcy-12 Creighton Law review (1979;) co- authored "The Role of the Guardian Ad Litem in Domestic Violence" - St. Louis Bar Journal (1996) and co-authored "Landlord/Tenant" and "Jury Call and Management" Chapters for Bench Book for Missouri Trial Judges (2000 / 2001.) He has attended the Missouri Judicial College (1994-2010) and National Judicial College (1995) and first took the bench as an Associate Circuit Court Judge in 1994.

Judge Ohmer is an active member of St. Pius V Catholic Church and is the church's former athletic director and former chair of the Parish Council. He has also served as a volunteer judge for the Stand Down Project for homeless veterans and has worked with the Washington University School of Law Moot Court.

Married Roberta Marie Cassulo on December 29, 1976. They have two children: Rachel Caroline and Rebecca Anne.
