Mark your calendars for interesting Missouri Bar continuing legal education on Elder Law topics.  Committee Vice Chair Samantha Shepherd has enlisted our committee members throughout the state to put together two events for our committee through The Missouri Bar, as follows (with more details soon to be announced separately by the Bar):

  • March 20, 2013, noon to 2 p.m., 2.4 hours MCLE credit, “MO HealthNet: Practical Elder Law Answers,” a two-hour webinar moderated by Connie Haden with Barbara Gilchrist, Erin Merkle, and Samantha Shepherd as speakers on such topics as 2012 cases, new Family Support Division eligibility processing policy, legislative update, application of the penalty divisor, and the new personal spending allowance.

  • June 20, 2013, at the Courtyard by Marriott, in Blue Springs, and June 21, 2013, at the Doubletree St. Louis-Westport, time and MCLE credit to be announced, Second Annual Elder Law Institute in two locations.  Denis Culley, Esq., Maine Senior Legal Aid, will be the main speaker for two sessions at each location on Financial Exploitation of Seniors and what to do about it.  Other sessions being developed with speakers to be announced include planning with income-producing assets such as farms, businesses, and annuities; the anatomy of a fair hearing; and the use of irrevocable trusts in conjunction with Veterans Benefits applications.
