Administrative Law Committee Scope

The scope and function of this committee is to promote the further development of local, state, and federal administrative law procedure and practice.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee

The scope of this committee is to consider and advise the Board of Governors on the development of all appropriate alternative dispute resolution possibilities that will improve the administration of justice in Missouri.

Animal Law Committee

This scope of this committee is to study and consider all aspects of the law relating to animals, including civil and criminal liability, torts, contracts, property, population protection and control, veterinary medicine, research and statutory development and enforcement. The committee will also review legislation and case law for the education of the bar and public.

Business Law Committee

The scope and function of this committee is to study and recommend improvements in Missouri statutes, regulations and common law which pertain to (1) the formation, financing, governance, reorganization and dissolution of corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorships and other business organizations, and (2) the offering and delivery of financial and investment services.

Civil Practice and Procedure

The scope of activities of this committee shall extend to all phases of civil practice and procedure in all levels of courts of state and federal jurisdiction. Recommendations for changes or improvements of practice and procedure in the field of civil law will be considered by this committee and, if approval is recommended, submitted to the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar for ultimate approval.

This committee shall study the statutory and common law relating to trade relationships and the development and enforcement of commercial paper, including accounts, negotiable paper and laws relating to insolvency.

Construction Law Committee

The scope of this committee is as follows:

1. To examine from time to time as the need arises, or when requested to do so by the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar, the statutes, regulations and practices of the State of Missouri, its subordinate branches and subdivisions, its municipalities and quasi-municipal corporations pertaining to the procurement of goods and services, to the end that the public welfare be best served.
2. To make suggestions for the improvement of the same, subject to approval of the Board of Governors.
3. To serve as an informal clearinghouse and information resource for members of the bar practicing in the field of public contract law.

Criminal Law Procedure Committee

This scope of this committee shall be to study the criminal laws and procedures in the courts of state and federal jurisdictions and all other practices in said courts relating thereto; to make recommendations to the Board of Governors for corrective legislation or procedural changes; and, to assist the legislative committee in having these laws passed of procedures adopted by the appropriate body.

The scope of this committee is to consider all appropriate means of improving the delivery of legal services to the public, including matters related to handicapped, elderly and low-income persons.

Division of Judicial Administration

The Division of Judicial Administration is open to all members of the state and federal judiciary and practicing lawyers in the State of Missouri inserted in the administration of justice, more effective functioning of the courts, and the relationship of bench and bar.

Education Law

The scope of this committee shall be the study and evaluation of all existing laws concerning schools of Missouri, their boards, teachers and students, with a view of the orderly development and improvement of those laws.

Environmental & Energy Law Committee Scope

The scope and purpose of this committee is to consider existing laws and regulations and study the need for the further development of the law as it relates to energy and natural resources.

Gender and Justice Committee Scope

The committee shall advise the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Board of Governors regarding the implementation of the findings and recommendations in the Gender & Justice Task Force Report previously received by the Court and the bar.

Government Attorneys Committee Scope

To provide a forum in which lawyers representing municipal, county, state or federal governments can meet for discussion and exchange of ideas. The committee shall promote representation of government lawyer interests in all aspects of bar activities and the profession. The committee shall sponsor educational and other appropriate activities to achieve these goals.

Health & Hospital Law Committee Scope

The scope of this committee is to promote the development and understanding of the law and administrative regulations as they relate to health and hospitals.

Immigration Law Committee Scope

The mission of the Immigration Law Committee is to facilitate better understanding of immigration law by the members of The Missouri Bar, to facilitate cross-education between immigration and non-immigration lawyers, reach out to the bar membership having interest in immigration law, and provide assistance with immigration-related issues to elected and appointed officials in the state of Missouri.

Insurance Law Committee Scope

The scope of this committee shall include the area of law dealing with all types of insurance, with the primary purpose of recommending needed changes, if any, for the improvement of the insurance law of Missouri, and
a. Study and consider those matters referred to the committee by the Board of Governors and officers of The Missouri Bar;
b. Study and consider those matters raised within the committee itself for the improvement of the insurance law of Missouri;
c. Counsel with representatives of the Division of Insurance of Missouri, the insurance industry and the insuring public on matters referred to or raised within the committee respecting changes in and improvements of the insurance law of Missouri;
d. Report and, where indicated, make recommendations to the President and Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar.

Provides to the Board of Governors its views concerning the program of insurance approved and sponsored by The Missouri Bar and to examine other programs as a means of determining whether there is a need for improvement or change in those programs already approved by The Missouri Bar. Also, the committee shall, from time to time, discuss the administration and promotion of the programs with the administrators of the various plans approved by The Missouri Bar.

Juvenile Courts & Law Committee Scope

The scope of this committee shall include the study and consideration of all substantive and procedural laws of state and federal jurisdictions concerning the administration of juvenile justice, adoptions and other laws thereto related, including preventative programs and education programs for public, bench and bar. Recommendation for changes in the common law or state shall be submitted to the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar for approval.

Labor & Employment Law Committee Scope

The scope of this committee shall be to study the law of labor relating as a science, and to promote its fair and just administration; to study and report on proposed and necessary legislation; to encourage members of The Missouri Bar interested in the problems of management and labor throughout the state to meet and confer, through this committee, upon their various problems and to endeavor to define rules of conduct based upon the rights and responsibilities of labor and industry; and through such cooperation to promote justice, human welfare and industrial peace and recognition of the supremacy of law.

Lawyers' Assistance Committee Scope

The scope and function of this committee shall be to formulate policies and programs pertaining to the disease of chemical dependency as it impacts the legal profession and that will assist members of the Missouri Bar afflicted with the disease of alcohol and other drug addiction or any other impairments; to seek to inform and to educate members of The Missouri Bar as to these and other addictions and impairments, especially as they relate to members of the legal profession, with emphasis on symptoms, nature and treatment of these impairments; to maintain cooperative liaison with the Missouri

Local Government Law Committee Scope

This committee shall:

1. Provide a common meeting ground and impartial forum for those members of the bar who are engaged in dealing with problems of municipal law in any capacity, whether as attorneys for units of local government, attorneys in private practice, law teachers, students or otherwise.
2. Further a better understanding of the law relating to municipal corporations and other public bodies through the holding of meetings, the making of studies, surveys and analyses, and the dissemination of current information concerning legislation and judicial decisions.
3. Formulate and submit to the Board of Governors and The Missouri Bar such reports and recommendations as may be deemed useful to the profession and advisable in the public interest.
4. The term "municipal law" as used herein shall be understood to mean the law pertaining to units of local government, including counties, cities, towns, villages, districts, authorities, or other local public bodies, whether of general or special function and character.

Media Law Committee Scope

The scope of this committee is to consider and advise the Board of Governors of all appropriate legal considerations related to the media.

Military Law Committee Scope

The scope of the Military Law Committee is to maintain liaison with and assist lawyers on active duty in the military service; to maintain liaison with other committees and organizations interested in military law; to keep all members of The Missouri Bar informed on developments in the field of military law; and to make reports and recommendations to the Board of Governors as may appear proper in the interest of The Missouri Bar and military with respect to this subject.

Minority Issues Committee Scope

The Committee on Minority Issues considers issues affecting and involving minority members of The Missouri Bar, develops Missouri Bar programs to address issues affecting and involving its minority membership, and serves as a liaison between The Missouri Bar and the various minority bars throughout the state.

Paralegals Committee Scope

This committee shall study and review the need for training of lawyers' assistants; seek to establish liaison with Missouri institutions providing such training; and make recommendations with regard to curriculum, accreditation of institutions, and supervision of such assistants.

Patent & Trademark Law Committee

This committee shall make continuing studies of laws and procedures, both state and federal, applicable to patent and trademarks, especially as to all aspects which may particularly affect residents of Missouri, and lawyers practicing in Missouri, and suggest, consider and recommend modifications to such laws and procedures.

Probate & Trust Law Committee

This committee's jurisdiction and function should be to study, report and recommend concerning all matters pertaining to the organization, jurisdiction and practice in the probate courts,

Property Law Committee

This committee shall study the law relating to all interests in real and personal property; the creation and transmission of interests in property; the examination of titles to interests in real property; draft and support legislation to affect improvements in the substantive lawy of real and personal property and titles; study the adjective law relating to the enforcement of property rights; and draft and support title examination standards for the guidance of title examiners.

Solo & Small Firm Practice Committee

The purpose of this committee is to address any needs and concerns of Missouri lawyers practicing solo or in a small firm not presently served by other Missouri Bar committees by providing a forum for those lawyers to collect, develop and disseminate relevant materials and information. The committee is intended to service the needs of all lawyers in solo and small firms. The committee will coordinate its interests and activities with other Missouri Bar committees and sections with mutual interests and provide its advice and assistance to the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar.

Taxation Law Committee

The purpose of the Taxation Committee shall, except in the case of matters of particular interest within the scope and purpose of some other committee, be:

1. To keep the bar informed of current and proposed developments;
2. To make recommendations for substantive and procedural revisions of existing laws; and
3. To promote the interests of The Missouri Bar in the field of taxation.

Technology & Computer Law Committee

The purpose of this committee is to consider the science and law related to the development of technology and computer law. This includes the utilization of technology and computers by lawyers and law firms as well as the law related to technology and computers.

Tort Law Committee

The scope and function of this committee shall include study and consideration of all matters of a substantive nature in the field of tor and negligence law, except in the area of workers' compensation law, in both state and federal jurisdictions. Recommendations for substantive changes in statutory law shall be submitted to the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar for approval.

Transportation Law Committee

The scope of this committee is to study and promote the development and understanding of local, state and federal laws and the administrative regulation of aviation.

Workers' Compensation Law Committee

The purpose and function of this committee is to consider and recommend changes in the law of workers' compensation and in the administration thereof; to consider the practice before the division, commission, and courts; and to collect and distribute information concerning the developments of compensation law and administration thereof to members of the bar and residents of the state.
