Missouri Bar Citizenship Education

We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution

The Missouri Bar serves as the state coordinator for We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, a nationally acclaimed constitutional study program for students in Grades 4-12 that promotes an understanding of the history and philosophy of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights and an understanding of democracy and its institutions. Although there is no longer federal funding for the program, The Missouri Bar, through the generosity of the Young Lawyers Section of The Missouri Bar and The Missouri Bar Foundation, continues to support the program.

There are three levels of books:
Level 1 generally is for Grades 4-6
.
Level 2 is generally for Grades 7-9
.
Level 3 is for Grades 10-12.

The We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is fully aligned with Missouri’s standards, GLEs andCLEs and Depth of Knowledge (DOK) guidelines. (See alignment link.) Both the Center for Civic Education and The Missouri Bar provide professional development opportunities for We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution.
