Garris, Nancy “When I came out of law school, I started my own practice. There were so many practical things that I didn't know. Now after 27 years, I realize how specialized most areas of practice have become and how many unwritten rules there are. I volunteer because I want to help new attorneys avoid the pitfalls of beginning a new practice and help seasoned attorneys keep up with any new developments in my area of practice.”

For nearly two decades, Nancy A. Garris has been doing just that, by volunteering her time as a moderator, commentator and presenter for MoBarCLE.  Garris has served as a commentator and moderator for such seminars as Children, Divorce and Custody, Supreme Court Form 14, and Advanced Guardian ad Litem programs. Garris has also served as a presenter at The Family Law Conference and as a recurrent speaker for Annual Law Update.

Garris obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia in zoology and botany.  She became an American Society of Clinical Pathology registered medical technologist, in which field she worked for ten years.  Following two years of post-graduate work in computer science, she entered law school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City where she received her law degree in 1990.

Since graduating from law school, Garris has worked exclusively in the area of family law and appellate practice.  Her experience includes many complex domestic cases as well as several juvenile cases and adoption cases.  She not only does her own appeals, but also frequently ghost writes appeals for other attorneys.  In addition to her practice, she clerks for the Honorable R. Michael Wagner, judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.

For all of her service on behalf of the legal community, please join The Missouri Bar in thanking Nancy A. Garris!
