With gratitude for a generation of devoted service, the Editorial Board of the Journal of The Missouri Bar dedicates this issue to Thomas A. Vetter of Jefferson City. Mr. Vetter, a partner in the law firm of Cook, Vetter, Doerhoff & Landwehr, recently announced his retirement from the Editorial Board.

Mr. Vetter's long association with the Journal began in 1969, when he wrote his first popular, informative column, "The Flag." He continued writing the column in every issue until 1990. He joined the Editorial Board in 1975, and served as chairman from 1985 to 1990. When he stepped down as chair of the group, he received The Missouri Bar President's Award in recognition of his valuable contributions.

Tom received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1957, and then served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He earned his J.D. and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1964. In 1984, he earned an LL.M. in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Tom's contributions to the Journal were only one facet of his public service. He served on The Missouri Bar's Board of Governors from 1986 to 1992. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Cole County Bar Association, which he served as president in 1973. He has been president of the Supreme Court Historical Society since 1990, and also serves on the Supreme Court Committee on Rule 74. He is a Trustee of the University of Missouri Law School Foundation, a member of the school's Law Society, and a Trustee of the University's Jefferson Club. A member of the St. Mary's Health Center Foundation in Jefferson City, he also served as president of the Jefferson City Area United Way for two years (1976-1977).

Tom has left his mark on the Journal. As he continues to leave his mark on his community and the fabric of Missouri law, we salute and thank him for a job well done.
